If you don’t like the idea of taking your shoes off at the door (Little Tip # 9) then I strongly recommend having an inside matt as well as the more typical external matt at each door into the house. Having that secondary internal matt just inside the door ensures a great deal of additional dirt that would otherwise have made its way into the house is left at the door. All it needs to be is a piece of carpet with some treatment to its edges, just enough to allow for another couple of wipes once you are inside.
