Big Tip No 1 Dont Read the Newspaper
I know, horror, aghast. How are you expected to be a well informed, intelligent member of society if you don’t read the daily newspaper. The reality however is that so much of what we read in the press today is quite irrelevant to our lives. The woes of the world are condensed and sensationalised
Big Tip # 11 – Get Some Help
While I hate to plug our own business the reality is that were here to help you …………………………………………………….
Big Tip # 10 – The Secret To Time Management
One of the most misunderstood concepts of time management is that you can actually have any sought of meaningful impact on your day and the way you spend your time by simply doing things more efficiently. The numerous day planners that require you to spend considerable amounts of time planning your day and allocating tasks will ultimately have little impact on your life.
Big Tip # 2 – Get The Kids To Do Some Household Chores
One of the best ways I know to keep the house tidy is to enlist the help of your children. I know this is not possible until they’re old enough to hold a broom but you would be surprised how many of us dismiss this concept on the basis that the kids are too young and then forget to follow up when they do reach that golden age. That golden age by the way isn’t as old as you might think.
Big Tip # 3 – Set Priorities
Imagine you have 5 rocks the size of your fist and a cup of sand. The rocks are the things that you really need to get done in any particular day and the sand represents all the numerous other little things that need to be done but aren’t all that important. Now imagine that you are trying to put the rocks into a container that is barely large enough to hold them.
Big Tip # 4 – Reduce the number of Kids Toys available
If you have kids then you will find that there is a constant stream of gifts and presents that enter the house but very few that leave. Allot of time is therefore spent in the daily clean up of the various toys that abound. Without necessarily throwing anything away (although this will form the basis of a future tip!) we have found that by regularly “culling” what’s on offer you can save yourself allot of time in cleaning up each day.
Big Tip # 5 – Simple Meal Planner.
While healthy eating is a important and variation in food is critical to ensure meal time is a pleasurable one it is very easy to spend far more time than necessary on this aspect of our lives. While what I am about to say may not appeal to those of you that find the preparation of daily meals an enjoyable pastime, the truth is that for most of us it is a chore, and spending so much time on an aspect of our lives that is essentially there to ensure we have the necessary energy and health to do what really matters makes little sense.
Big Tip # 6 – Say No to Things
It is very easy to fill your life up with lots of unnecessary activities and commitments. In many ways it gives us a sense of belonging and makes us feel needed if we are rushing round madly from one activity to the next. The flip side of this coin however is that it stops us from undertaking those activities in life that will ultimately leave us feeling truly satisfied.
Big Tip # 7 – Reduce the clutter.
Once every 6 months you should just get rid of the things in your life that you don’t really need. Simplicity is an extremely enlivening concept. I love the fact that as I close the front door of our house on a Friday night and head down the coast with the family for the weekend, I couldn’t really care if the house burnt down while we were away.
Big Tip # 8 – In with the new, out with the old.
I find a great way to keep the clutter down in the first place is getting into the habit of throwing something out each time I buy something new. Let’s face it, most of the things we buy are not totally unique but rather a newer, fresher, more contemporary version of something we already have.
Big Tip # 9 – Reduce Kids Extra Activities
On the one hand we seem to be spending more and more time ferrying our kids around the place form organised activity to organised activity and on the other hand we seem to be increasingly concerned about our ability to raise happy, healthy well adjusted children that won’t be susceptible to dugs and other forms of substance abuse.
