Once every 6 months you should just get rid of the things in your life that you don’t really need. Simplicity is an extremely enlivening concept. I love the fact that as I close the front door of our house on a Friday night and head down the coast with the family for the weekend, I couldn’t really care if the house burnt down while we were away. Every thing really important to me is in that car and everything else are just things that a good insurance policy can replace. The only thing I often think I would truly miss are the photo albums, but then again if you keep busy creating new memories in life, you never really have time to look back at the old ones. Getting back to the point however, in simple terms, the less you have, the less you have to look after and the more you will feel on top of and in control of your life. So go through your clothes and throw out the things you’re not really wearing. Put them in a bag to give to charity so they don’t go to waste, but get them out. If your one of these people that can’t bring themselves to throw anything away then place the bag up high in a cupboard and then after six months or 12 months if you haven’t had to go back into that bag for anything then simply give it away knowing that what’s in it can’t be all that important after all. Do the same with the kids clothes, the kids toys, books, magazines, CD’s, Video’s. DVD’s etc… Do the same with the linen press and the kitchen cupboards and anything else you can lay your hands on. The fact is that very little of this “stuff” will really be missed at all. The few items that in hindsight you may regret having parted with will mean little when compared to the time and energy this process frees up in your life.
