While healthy eating is important and variation in food is critical to ensure meal time is a pleasurable one it is very easy to spend far more time than necessary on this aspect of our lives. While what I am about to say may not appeal to those of you that find the preparation of daily meals an enjoyable pastime, the truth is that for most of us it is a chore, and spending so much time on an aspect of our lives that is essentially there to ensure we have the necessary energy and health to do what really matters makes little sense. While mealtime itself is a very important aspect of our lives, as it is often an opportunity to spend quality time with friends and family, the preparation of the meal should be made as simple as possible. You may find therefore as I did, that the introduction of a simple weekly meal planer, greatly reduces the amount of time required to produce the weekly meals. While the meal planner will naturally vary from family to family depending on their respective tastes, the following is an example of what I use:

Day Meal Day Meal
Monday Chicken: Stir Fry with Rice etc. Friday Soup
Tuesday Fresh Fish: With Vegetables Saturday Eat Out or Take Away
Wednesday Tuna: Paste / Mornay etc.. Sunday Mexican: Nacho’s/Taco’s
Thursday Sausages: With Vegetables

From here it’s very easy to produce a standard shopping list which you can pull out each week and just check off the necessary items. You can then reduce your shop to once a week as you know exactly what’s required for the week ahead and save even more time. Or even get it home delivered using one of the online service providers saving even more time. By doing this you remove so much of the mundane repetitive planning and in doing so free up the necessary time to spend on that extra special meal one a week or whatever else you choose to do with the extra time this simple yet effective idea creates in your busy week.
